Pots and Pans for Induction Cooking

Pots and pans must be made from a magnetic material to work with induction cooktops, which induces electrons in the magnetic material to move thus creating heat for cooking.

Materials that work:

  • cast-iron
  • steel
  • magnetic stainless steel
  • ceramic-clad and enameled pots with an iron pan hidden in the ceramic layer.

Materials that don’t work:

  • aluminum
  • glass
  • copper pans (*unless they’re made with a layer of magnetic material on the bottom)

An easy test – if a magnet sticks to the bottom of your pan, it can be used on an induction cooktop.

Induction cooktops and ranges feature safe, efficient cooking in that only the pot heats up. The burner itself doesn’t heat up much except from contact with a hot pot so there’s less risk of burning yourself.

How does induction cookware work?

Induction cookware works by using a magnetic field under the cooktop's surface. When you place induction-compatible cookware on it, the cookware heats up directly, providing fast and precise cooking with safe and efficient results. This advanced technology delivers swift and even heating while allowing for instant temperature adjustments, making it a favorite among chefs and home cooks alike. Additionally, the cooktop itself remains relatively cool to the touch, reducing the risk of burns and offering a clean, hassle-free cooking experience.

Selecting induction-ready cookware

Choosing the right induction cookware extends beyond mere compatibility. Consider your cooking preferences and needs. For quick and even heating, opt for stainless steel or cast-iron cookware. If aesthetics matter, ceramic-clad pots are a popular option. Additionally, pay attention to details such as the cookware's size, weight, and handle comfort to ensure a seamless cooking experience that aligns with your specific cooking style and kitchen setup. Your choice should not only be induction-ready but also tailored to your unique culinary requirements.

Induction cookware care tips

Proper care is essential to ensure the longevity and performance of your induction cookware. While cleaning methods for induction cookware are quite similar to those used for non-induction cookware, it's essential to follow a few key practices. Begin by hand washing your pots and pans instead of using a dishwasher to prevent damage to their surfaces. Avoid abrasive scrubbers, and always dry them thoroughly after washing to prevent water spots and maintain their lustrous appearance.
