Why do I need to clean the dishwasher filter?

The filter is the place where food particles get caught and it needs to be cleaned regularly to avoid overflow, for efficient cleaning and better performance. The dishwasher filter has 3 main jobs:

  • Protecting the pump from being clogged by food debris.
  • Cleaning and clearing the dishwater.
  • Keeping food particles from landing and resticking to your dishes.

How to remove the dishwasher filter?

Review your owner's manual to learn how to remove the filter, which is located at the bottom of your dishwasher. Download the owner's manual here if you don't have a copy of it.

How to clean the dishwasher filter?

  • Remove the lower dishwasher rack and spray arm
  • To remove the filter, twist and pull it out with the mesh screen
  • Wash and clean the dishwasher filter under running water with mild soap and a soft brush to remove debris.
  • Place the filter and spray arm back in the dishwasher.
